As Director of User Experience and Design, I led the creation of a voice-enabled product that streamlined auto technicians' workflows, reducing the time to access repair specifications from over five minutes to under 30 seconds. I guided a team through concept development, user testing, and real-world validation, collaborating with development teams and leadership to deliver a scalable, user-centered solution. Within six months, we launched an MVP that secured over 30 clients in two weeks, setting a new standard for user interaction in the automotive repair industry.
As Director of User Experience and Design, I led a team of designers to create a voice-enabled product, Ortho, that transformed how auto technicians access repair specifications. Collaborating cross-functionally with development teams and senior leadership, including the Chief Creative Officer, I ensured alignment between user needs and technical capabilities. This involved creating a cohesive strategy for integrating voice and touch interfaces into a user-centered design system, setting a new standard for interaction in the automotive industry.
I drove the end-to-end design process, including concept development, wireframing, and hypothesis testing. By conducting user research and testing prototypes in real-world settings, I refined solutions tailored to technicians' workflows. My work focused on delivering seamless, intuitive user experiences that enhanced task efficiency and usability.
Under a tight six-month timeline, I successfully guided the team to deliver a fully functional MVP. I managed competing priorities while maintaining a high-quality output, ensuring the product met both user expectations and technical requirements. This required balancing rapid iteration cycles with strategic foresight to keep the project on track.
The solution reduced the time for technicians to find repair specifications from over five minutes to under 30 seconds, significantly improving efficiency. By designing for a voice-first environment augmented by touch, I ensured the system was intuitive, fast, and easy to use. The product’s launch resonated strongly with users, proving its effectiveness in the field.
The project faced several key challenges, including delivering a fully functional MVP within a tight six-month timeframe, which required precise planning and efficient collaboration across teams. Designing for Natural Language Processing (NLP) and multimodal interactions introduced a significant learning curve, as we worked to balance the complexities of voice and touch interfaces. Additionally, addressing the unique workflows and needs of auto technicians required iterative user research and in-field testing to ensure the product was intuitive, practical, and effective in real-world scenarios.
